Aloha Friday - Pali Lookout, Halona Blowhole and more
Happy Aloha Friday!! Back in the day, before casual Friday, businesses here allowed their workers to wear Aloha shirts on Friday, creating Aloha Fridays. Nowadays, it mostly means no work until Monday. For us, since we're not working yet, everyday is Aloha Friday!! 😂😂
The weather was great today so we decided to take a road trip. Our first stop was to Pali Lookout on the windward side of the island. It was so windy (think hurricane strength wind) that Lo almost dropped her phone. I could feel the wind pushing me as I walked to the lookout. The view was beautiful.
The lookout is part of Nu'uanu Pali State Wayside. There was a sign requesting a $7 parking fee from non-residents, which started an internal debate on whether we should pay the fee or not. We decided since we have an apartment, we are technically residents (plus, we took turns going to the lookout because it was too windy for the Toddler so we didn't really park - we just drove in circles).
From there, we decided to drive to Halona Blow Hole. On the way, we stopped at Waimanalo Beach. So beautiful. I've always considered myself more of a mountain person versus a beach person -- Waimanalo Beach has both so I don't have to choose. Which do you prefer? Mountains or beaches?
We continued to Halona Blow Hole. It was pretty packed with tourists, none of them wearing masks or social distancing -- that's not the norm here because locals treasure their Kapuna (older person) and they want to keep them safe. Side note: here, I'm considered a Kapuna. I certainly don't feel old enough to be considered elderly. 😂😂
To the left of the blow hole, there is a large beach area but the waves were so strong, I would think only the best swimmers would go there. We saw a lot of surfers in that area.
From there we headed home. We're sitting inside now, watching TV and smelling our neighbor's awesome cooking. I'm pretty sure they're having garlic chicken. The strong night breeze is cooling off our apartment, almost like the winds know that it's Aloha Friday.
Those pictures are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks - Lo took them (of course!)
